Introducing the Foundational Patient Charter for Obesity
The Foundational Patient Charter for Obesity is a shared starting point for better obesity care across the globe.
The Global Commitment is an invitation to adapt, share, and build on that foundational charter so it reflects the needs and realities of different countries, cultures, and communities.
Better obesity care will not be built by one country, one organization or one document alone. It will be shaped by people who know why this work matters and are ready to help carry it forward.
The Foundational Patient Charter gives us something to stand on. The Global Commitment for Better Obesity Care gives us a way to move forward together.
The Global Commitment for Better Obesity Care invites people and organizations around the world to support the shared principles, adapt them to local realities, and share stories of change so others can learn and build from them along the way.
The Foundational Patient Charter was developed through international collaboration to support regional adaptation. It identifies five shared guiding principles that people affected by obesity told us matter most:
There should be zero tolerance for weight bias and stigma.
People living with obesity should have access to appropriate evidence-based treatment.
Care should be based on science and clinical standards.
It should be inclusive, culturally safe, and free of barriers.
They should take part in decisions at every step.
This work is just beginning. Sign up to receive updates as the Global Commitment grows, including opportunities to share your perspective, learn from other regions, and help bring the Foundational Patient Charter for Obesity to life in your community.
